India releases three Sri Lankan fishing trawlers
Three (03) Sri Lankan fishing trawlers arrested by the Indian Coast Guard for trespassing into the Indian territorial waters, were released form Indian custody today (16 December). Strengthening the maritime bond between the two countries the trawlers were repatriated to Sri Lanka, with the assistance of Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
The repatriation of trawlers took place at the IMBL north of Kankesanthurei. A Patrol Vessel of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard Ships ‘Abbakka’ and ‘Ameya’ were deployed for this mission. The fishing trawlers which were escorted to the Kankesanthurei harbour, were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna. These fishing trawlers had been arrested by India in 2015.
