All-night pirith chanting and alms giving held at SLNS Gemunu in view of 67th Navy Day
An all-night pirith chanting ceremony followed by an alms giving was held at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara on 2nd and 3rd December 2017 in view of the 67th Navy Day, the annual celebration of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The proceedings of the series of religious events commenced as lamps were lit at the Naval War Heroes Memorial at SLNS Gemunu, transferring merits on fallen naval war heroes. Subsequently, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, with great devotion, brought the relic casket in a colourful procession. On completion of all-night pirith chanting, the alms and pirikara were offered to Buddhist monks and religious blessings were invoked on Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel.
The President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Sandya Ranasinghe, the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Neil Rosayro, officers and sailors attached to the Naval Headquarters and Western Naval Command, their family members also attended these religious programmes.
