Navy springs into action to rescue communities battered by adverse weather
 

Amidst the prevailing adverse weather condition in the country, the Sri Lanka Navy sprang into action engaging in flood relief operations in affected areas in the Southern, Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces of the island. Promptly responding to the contingency situation, the Navy at present Saturday (01 December) has deployed 13 relief teams along with 12 dinghies in areas which are prone to flash floods.

Accordingly, the Navy had deployed 06 relief teams in the Southern Province, 06 such teams in the Western Province and another team in the Sabaragamuwa Province to swiftly evacuate affected communities from the affected regions and undertake prompt relief measures for them.

The naval troops are currently engaged in relief work in Thawalama, Pitabaddara, Dammulla and Imaduwa in Galle District, Sapugoda and Pandugama in Matara District, Bulathsinhala, Walallawita, Baduraliya and Mathugama in Kalutara District and Kuruwita in Rathnapura District.

Further, the Navy relief teams have thus far transferred 155 persons who were stranded without a mode of transport, as the roads had been inundated following heavy downpour. Meanwhile, the naval relief teams continue to engage in rescue and relief work amidst extreme weather that caused havoc in several provinces in the country.
