Navy grants one million rupees as compensation to family members of Petty Officer WMS Thilakarathna
The Sri Lanka Navy donated one million rupees as compensation under its healthcare scheme, ‘Naviru Saviya,’ to the family members of late Petty Officer WMS Thilakarathna, who passed away due to an accident. The cheque in this regard was handed over in terms of the Naviru Saviya constitution to the legal beneficiaries of the compensation, his mother, R.K.B.M. Heenmenika and wife, A.M.D. Aththanayaka at his residence in Uhana, Ampara, today (16 November).
The sailor had joined the Navy on 07 June 2001 and served at various naval establishments prior to his untimely death at the age of 35. He had last served attached to SLNS Mahanaga in Panama.
"Naviru Saviya" is a health care scheme, which operates as a non-public fund under the direct supervision of the Commander of the Navy. It provides financial assistance to its members and their families during death, critical illnesses, permanent and partial disability, general illnesses, surgery and medical tests.
