Navy assists transfer of critically-ill fisherman ashore for medical treatment
On receipt of information, the Navy assisted the transfer of a critically-ill fisherman ashore for medical treatment yesterday (03 November 2017).
The fisherman had been onboard a multi-day fishing trawler named “Lakmal Putha’, which had left the Beruwala fisheries harbour for fishing. He had fallen ill due to a severe pain in his chest. After being alerted of the emergency situation, the Navy promptly dispatched the Fast Attack Craft, P 411, attached to the Southern Naval Command to the location.
The naval personnel reached the fishing trawler in the seas 16 nautical miles off Galle Light House and safely transferred the critically-ill fisherman to the Galle harbour. Thereafter, he was rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
