Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe appointed as the 22nd Commander of the Navy
 

Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, on being promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral, was appointed as the 22nd Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena today (26 October 2017). He received the letter of appointment from the Secretary to the President, Mr. Austin Fernando at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday. Accordingly, the new Commander of the Navy is scheduled to assume duties in the new position today.

Vice Admiral Sirimevan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe was educated at the St. Joseph’s College and Central College in Anuradhapura. He joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 11th Intake and underwent his basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee, where he was adjudged the best cadet winning Sword of Honour and selected for the International Midshipmen Course (1984-1985) at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, England.

Vice Admiral Ranasinghe is a highly decorated officer being a recipient of Weera Wickrama Vibushanaya and Rana Wikrama Padakkama for gallantry in the face of the enemy. He has also held notable appointments including the Chief of Staff of the Navy over 2 years, Commanding Officer of a number of ships, craft and establishments, Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy, Commandant of the Volunteer Naval Force, Director General of the Coast Guard and Commander of Southern and Western Naval Areas.
