Two Katina ceremonies held under Navy patronage in the North
 

Under the guidance of the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha de Silva, the naval personnel of the Northern Naval Command rendered assistance for the conduct of two Katina ceremonies in the north recently.

Accordingly, the annual Katina ceremony and the midday alms giving of the Dambakola Patuna temple were held on 06 October. The Katina robe was taken in a colourful procession to the temple in accordance with traditions and it was offered to the Chief Incumbent of the Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Vihara and Chief Sanganayake of the Northern Province, the Venerable Prachinacharya Dharmakirthi Sri Padumakitti Tissa Thera by the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha de Silva. Subsequently, alms were offered to the Maha Sangha.

The Katina ceremony of the Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Vihara was conducted under the guidance of its Chief Incumbent and Chief Sanganayake of the Northern Province, the Venerable Prachinacharya Dharmakirthi Sri Padumakitti Tissa Thera yesterday (13 October). The relic casket and the Katina robe were carried by the Commander Northern Naval Area and the Captain of the Operations Department (North), Captain Kosala Warnakulasuriya respectively.

A large number of devotees were also present to witness the colourful procession carrying the relic casket and the Katina robe. Subsequently, alms and Atapirikara were offered to the Maha Sangha, who chanted Seth Pirith invoking blessings on the Navy Commander and the entire Navy for the meritorious act. Midday meals were also provided by the Navy to the devotees who had arrived on pilgrimage to the Nagadeepa temple.
