Navy arrests 5 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters
Sri Lanka Navy arrested 5 Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters last night. (11 October 2017).
Naval personnel onboard SLNS Ranawickrama and Fast Attack Craft patrolling in the northern seas arrested these Indian fishing poachers in Sri Lankan territorial waters about 11.5 nautical miles off Mannar Lighthouse. The arrested fishermen, the trawler and their fishing gear were brought to the naval base SLNS Thammanna in Thaleimannar. The fishermen are due to be handed over to the Fisheries Inspector in Mannar for onward legal action.
