Commander of the Navy pays homage to historic Buddhist temples in Anuradhapura
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah and Mrs. Thiruni Sinniah paid homage to several historic Buddhist temples in the sacred city of Anuradhapura yesterday (07 October 2017). Proceeding first to the Mirisavetiya temple, they met its Chief Incumbent Thera and received his blessings.
Thereafter, they called on the Anuradhapura Atamasthanadipathi and Chief Sanghanayake of the North Central Province of the Malwattte Maha Vihara Chapter of the Shyamopali Maha Nikaya, the Venerable Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera. The Commander of the Navy offered Ata Pirikara to the Venerable Thera. Subsequently, they arrived at the Uda Maluwa and paid homage to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, where Seth Pirith was chanted invoking blessings on the Navy Commander and the entire Navy.
Next, they arrived at the Sarananda Pirivena in Anuradhapura where 50 Buddhist monks chanted Seth Pirith invoking blessings on Vice Admiral Sinniah. The Navy Commander and accompanying officials, thereafter, visited the Ruwanweli Maha Seya temple and received the blessings of its Chief Incumbent Thera. The Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Merrill Wickremasinghe and a number of senior naval officers were also present on the occasion.
