Two RO plants bestowed on the public under the guidance of Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease
Utilizing the funds provided by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and the Sri Lanka Navy, another 2 reverse osmosis plants, designed by the Navy’s Research and Development Unit, were vested in the general public in Hambegamuwa yesterday (06 October 2017). The installation of RO plants to provide clean drinking water to people is yet another welfare project of the Sri Lanka Navy.
The two installations erected in the village of Kukulkatuwa in Hambegamuwa and Nalanda Junior School in Monaragala, were declared open by the Director of Special Projects in Uva Province Mr. Jagath Pushpakumara, at the invitation of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah. The occasion was also attended by the Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe and several senior naval officers. The reverse osmosis plant, installed in the village of Kukulkatuwa provides safe drinking water to 280 households in the region. Meanwhile, the installation at Nalanda Junior School is capable of producing clean drinking water for 150 school children and 220 families in the village nearby.
The Navy has been able to provide clean drinking water to 123,609 families and 89,687 students from the 277 RO plants installed so far. As a key partner of the national effort to eradicate chronic kidney disease, the Navy plans to install more such reverse osmosis plants in order to provide the general public with clean drinking water.
