Navy arrests 8 fishermen for poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters
Sri Lanka Navy arrested 8 Indian fishermen along with 2 fishing trawlers for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters this morning (19 September 2017).
Accordingly, naval personnel onboard SLNS Ranawickrama, Ranajaya and Edithara II, on patrol at the IMBL off north, made the apprehensions about 13.6 and 10.7 nautical miles northwest of Delft Lighthouse.
The arrested fishermen, trawlers and other fishing gear have been taken to SLNS Elara in Kareinagar. They will be handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for onward legal action.
