Commander of the Navy visits new Coast Guard OPV
 

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah today (18 September 2017) made an inspection visit onboard Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) provided by the Indian Government to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. The Commander of the Navy was warmly received according a Guard of Honour upon his arrival.

The occasion was also attended by the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral NirajaAttygalle, Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunga and a host of naval officers.

The Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain NevilUbesinghe briefed the Navy Commander on the operational capabilities and several other facilities available onboard vessel. Upon sharing a couple of thoughts on future operational engagements of the vessel, Vice Admiral Sinniah also left his remarks in the Visitors’ Book.

The OPV provided by the Indian Government to expand the operational capacities of the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard can be manned by 10 officers and 98 sailors.
