Navy’s 250th Reverse Osmosis Plant vested in the General Public
Installation of reverse osmosis plants for the benefit of the general public is part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s Community Welfare Project. Marking a milestone in the SLN’s worthy endeavour, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena, at the invitation of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah, vested the Navy’s 250th Reverse Osmosis Plant in the general public at the Ritigahaweva Sri Saddharma Jothikaramaya in Horowpothana today (10 September 2019).
Members of the Maha Sangha, the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, the Minister of Rural Economic Affairs, Hon. P Harrison, the Anuradhapura District Coordinator of the Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention Programme, Mr. Tissa Karaliyadda, the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah, senior officers of the tri-forces and a large number of residents in the area were also present on the occasion.
The RO plant will provide clean drinking water to 350 families in the area. His Excellency the President also presented 600 mini reverse osmosis plants to 600 residents suffering from the chronic kidney disease. A special memento was also presented by HE the President to Captain (E) Priyankara Dissanayake in appreciation of the commendable project implemented by the Navy’s Research and Development Unit.
To coincide with the event, HE the President vested 10 more reverse osmosis plants in the general public online for the benefit of Rideemaliyadda Gemunupura, Vellampela, Keselpotha, Senevigama, Keselpotha North Anuradhapura Walisinghe Harishchandra Maha Vidyalaya, Oyamadu Viharaya, Galenbidunuweva Sri Gangaramaya, Anuradhapura D.S. Senanayake Primary School and the Special Forces Headquarters-Vavuniya.
The financial assistance for the installation of these reverse osmosis plants had been provided by the Sri Lanka Navy, the Presidential Task Force on the Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and the Sri Lanka Army. So far through the installation of its reverse osmosis plants, the Navy has been able to provide clean drinking water to 121,544 families, 87,690 school children and 975 army personnel.
As a key partner of the national effort to eradicate chronic kidney disease, the Navy has taken measures to install reverse osmosis plants in the affected districts in collaboration with the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease. The Navy plans to install more such reverse osmosis plants in order to provide the general public with clean drinking water.
