New Navy Commander briefs media
 

Warmly welcoming the media personnel representing the respective media institutions to the Naval Headquarters for the media briefing held today (23 August 2017), the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah stated that he was very much pleased with the opportunity to address them after his assumption of duties as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, which has a strong legacy well proven in battle. He expressed his whole-hearted gratitude to His Excellency the President and the Government of Sri Lanka for entrusting him with that onerous task.

The new Navy Commander went on to add that an island-nation like ours requires a very strong Navy for its protection. He stated that he has the capability to lead such a Navy, utilizing the knowledge and experience he has gained since his joining the Navy in 1982, and the strength he has derived from surmounting the challenges he has faced in his naval career.

The Commander stressed his intention to enable the Navy to contribute to the country’s development and its economic prosperity, utilizing the island-nation’s oceanic resources to the fullest. He also stated that he would make the Navy fully capable of protecting the country’s maritime interests for the benefit of all its inhabitants.

The Navy Commander emphasized that he would maintain at all times the utmost transparency in the matters pertaining to naval administration and the utilization of the funds allocated to the Navy by the Government.

The Commander also drew attention to his intention of making the Navy professionally competent and fully committed to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland. He also went to add that the Navy under his command would continue to assist the country’s development in accordance with the national defence strategy as well as the policies of the Navy.
