Navy excel at Mr. Melwa National Bodybuilding Championship
 

With an impressive performance in the 75kg weight category, Leading Communicator Chaturanga Dias of the Sri Lanka Navy clinched the overall championship and Leading Seaman Prasanna Siriwardene emerged the runner-up in the 70kg weight category at the Mr. Melwa National Bodybuilding Championship worked off at the Negombo Municipal Council Hall yesterday (12 August 2017).

The Navy bagged a total medal tally of 05 gold in the championship courtesy Leading Engineering Mate Nalaka Hemachandra, Leading Seaman Prasanna Siriwardene, Leading Communicator Chaturanga Dias, Leading Seaman Dinash Wijesinghe and Physical Training Instructor Kasun Dushantha, who displayed a sterling performance in the 65, 70, 75 and 85kg weight categories respectively.

Member of the Asian Bodybuilding Federation, former President of the Bodybuilding Federation and Secretary of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Mr. Kapila Kumara graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. President of the Bodybuilding Federation Mr. Kithsiri Fernando and the Chairman of the Melwa Group of Companies were also among the distinguished invitees at the event, which attracted a large number of bodybuilding personnel including those representing the Army and the Air Force.
