Navy declares open 3 Reverse Osmosis plants for community use
Yet another community service effort of the Sri Lanka Navy, implemented under the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, was brought to fruition today (07, August) with the opening of 3 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants. Accordingly the 3 units devised by the Naval Research and Development Unit were declared open for community use at the villages of Pinnagolla in Rideemaliyadda, Ritigaha in Arawa and Senevigama Sri Dharmashrama Buddhist Centre in Mahiyanganaya.
The new installations will hereafter quench the thirst of 350 families in Pinnagolla village, 465 families in Ritigaha and 54 students receiving education at Senevigama Sri Dharmashrama Buddhist Centre cum 485 families in the region respectively.
The RO systems erected at the villages of Pinnagolla and Ritigaha have been sponsored by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease. Meanwhile, the installation at the Senevigama Sri Dharmashrama Buddhist Centre has been set up under the auspices of the institute of Firefly Mission Singapore. It also turned out to be the 7th RO plant installed with the sponsorship of Firefly Mission Singapore.
The Navy had installed a total of 249 RO systems in different parts of the country thus far, facilitating 118,864 families and 81,690 school children with safe drinking water. Moreover, the Navy is determined to continue this project ahead and serve the needy people with clean drinking water, in areas which are prone to kidney disease.
