Navy continues with Reverse Osmosis plant project, 03 more units bestowed on community
Three (03) more Reverse Osmosis plants produced by the Naval Research and Development Unit were declared open at Kandulugamuwa Vidyalaya, Galnewa, Muslim Vidyalaya, Negama and village of Thunukkai, Mullaitivu for community use yesterday (02, August).
Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community service projects under the visionary leadership of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. The installation of RO plants in areas prone to the kidney disease is one of the many such noble projects undertaken by the Sri Lanka Navy to provide poor communities with purified drinking water.
The facility erected at Kandulugamuwa Vidyalaya is capable of processing drinking water for 431 school children and 378 families in the area and the RO unit at Muslim Vidyalaya will produce safe drinking water for 700 school children and 456 villagers close by. Similarly, over 325 families are blessed with safe drinking water due to this noble initiative of Sri Lanka Navy. Financial allocations for the RO plants installed at Kandulugamuwa Vidyalaya and Muslim Vidyalaya were made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.
Meanwhile, the remaining facility had been sponsored by Pakistan Government and Sirasa Gammedda campaign.
As a result of the engineering excellence of the Naval Research and Development Unit, the Navy has installed 242 RO plants across the country to date, facilitating over 115,925 families and 81,316 school children with safe drinking water. Further, the Navy is determined and will continue this noble effort setting up more RO plants in due course.
The occasion was attended by the Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdul Rahman Isan, Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Dr. Sarfraz Ahmed Khan Sipra, Coordinating Officer for prevention of kidney disease in Anuradhapura district, Mr. Tissa Karaliyadda, senior officers, residents from the area and a large gathering of school children.
