Another Reverse Osmosis plant declared open, Meegahayadura community blessed with safe drinking water
Yet another Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant devised by the Navy Research and Development Unit declared open for community use at Meegahayadura, Sooriyawewa today (July, 09). Following a visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Navy has been installing RO plants in areas where high prevalence of Kidney Disease is recorded.
Going by the directives of Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne, the Navy makes every endeavour to fulfill the drinking water requirement of the community in areas where high prevalence of Kidney Disease is reported. The new system which is capable of producing clean drinking water for 450 families in the region, has been sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colombo Central through mediation of Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo. Further, the it possesses the capacity of processing 10,000 l of safe drinking water per single day.
As a result of the technological innovation and expertise of the Navy Research and Development Unit, they have set up 228 RO plants in different parts of the country, facilitating over 108,435 families and 80,185 school children with clean drinking water. Besides, the Navy is determined to continue this noble effort into the future, in a bid to be a sigh of relief to the people battered by the renal disease.
