Another Reverse Osmosis plant declared open in Kekirawa
 

The Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant installed at Kekirawa Central College by the Navy’s Research and Development Unit, was declared open today (July, 03) for the use of school children. As part of a wide range of community development projects operated under the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, this RO plant was set up at the school premises.

The Navy, following the directives of the Commander of the Navy, is making every effort to provide safe drinking water for common citizens and school children living in areas prone to kidney disease. The magnanimous initiative of the Navy will help prevent the spread of this menace and protect the children from Chronic Kidney Disease. The new installation is capable of providing safe drinking water for 3,500 school children and 165 teachers in the school.Financial allocation for this project was made by the Presidential Task Force for Prevention of Kidney Diseases.

The Navy’s Research and Development Unit making use of their technological knowledge and expertise has successfully installed a total of 225 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 107,390 families and 80,185 school children with safe drinking water. Further, the Navy will continue its community development and social responsibility projects while setting up more RO plants to fulfill the drinking water requirement of the poor population.
