Going by this noble effort, 04 more RO plants were declared open for community use at Akkara-400 in Vavuniya, Periyaulukkulama, Paindikulama in Thirappane and Bogaswewa in Padaviya yesterday (June, 21), under the auspices of Navy’s Research and Development Unit.

Accordingly, 500 families at Akkara-400, 600 families at Periyaulukkulama, 650 families at Paindikulama and 550 families at Bogaswewa will hereafter have access to safe drinking water. The four RO systems were sponsored by the Presidential Task Force for Prevention of Kidney Diseases.

As a result of the technological innovations and expertise of the Navy’s Research and Development Unit, a total of 215 Reverse Osmosis plants have been set up in different parts of the country, to provide safe drinking water for 104,985 families and 76,520 school children to date. Besides, the Navy will continue to carry out this noble effort, catering to the drinking water requirement of desperate communities deprived of that basic need.
