Navy arrests 8 persons engaged in illegal fishing
 

Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command apprehended 8 persons engaged in illegal fishing activities using unauthorized fishing nets in the waters off Elizabath Island, Trincomalee yesterday (June, 20).

Along with the fishermen; a dinghy, a 225 m long unauthorized net and 80 kg of fish were taken into naval custody. The arrested persons, fishing gear and the stock of fish were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Trincomalee for onward legal action.
