Navy grants one million rupees as death compensation to family members of an Able Seaman
 

The Sri Lanka Navy donated one million rupees as death compensation, under the Navy's healthcare scheme, "Naviru Saviya," to the family members of Able Seaman CS Weerakkody who succumbed to a vehicle accident, at his residence in Anamaduwa yesterday (June,14). The cheque in this regard was handed over to J Ishani Maduwanthi (spouse), U Weerakkody (father) and DM Karunawathi (mother) of the sailor, in accordance with the constitution of "Naviru Saviya Fund”

The sailor joined the Navy in 2007 and had served at various establishments before his untimely death due to an accident at the age of 29. He had last served attached to the naval base SLNS Gemunu.

"Naviru Saviya" is a health care scheme, which operates as a non-public fund under the direct supervision of the Commander of the Navy. It provides financial assistance to its members and their families during death, critical illness, permanent and partial disability, general illness, surgery and medical tests.
