Two more Reverse Osmosis plants declared open
Following a visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, 2 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants produced by the Navy Research and Development Unit, were declared open at the Vidyadhara Pirivena in Anuradhapura and Morawaka, Deniyaya, today (June,13).
As result of the heavy down pour existed in the country recently, many of the drinking water sources of the public have been contaminated. At the request of HE the President and directives of Commander of the Navy, the Navy Research and Development Unit addressed this sensitive matter by providing a mobile RO plant for the community in the Morawaka region. Subsequently, the Navy permanently installed an RO unit in the area facilitating over 600 general public with safe drinking water.
Further, another RO plant installed in Anuradhapura, Vidyadhara Pirivena was declared open for the use of over 100 apprentices studying at the Pirivena. This RO system was sponsored by the Presidential Taskforce for Prevention of Kidney disease.
To date, the Navy had installed 211 RO systems in different parts of the country facilitating over 102,685 families and 76,520 school children with safe drinking water to date. Besides, the Navy is determined to continue this magnanimous effort into the future in a bid to quench the thirst of public deprived of safe drinking water.
