Navy undertakes cleaning of Beddagana canal in Akuregoda
 

To face-off possible flood threat that could pose in Akuregoda area during heavy downpour expected in the following months, the Navy is undertaking preventive measures as of now. Accordingly, the Navy rendered assistance to clean the Beddagana canal located at the Kotte Municipal Council area, today (7).

The cleaning effort was undertaken by a group of 57 naval personnel, under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of the Akuregoda Naval Base, Captain Dhammika Udugama. Deputy Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Hon. (Dr.) Harsha De Silva and few other officials also made an inspection visit at the site to look into the proceedings of the cleaning task.

The initiative kicked off on 1st June at the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. An excavator of the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation, two trucks and a tractor of the Navy had been used for this project.
