Navy continues RO plant project, 3 more units declared open
Three more Reverse Osmosis plants installed under the social responsibility project of the Navy declared open for community use yesterday (4th June). This noble project has been implementing following the guidance and directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne.
Accordingly, the 3 RO systems were erected at Thammannakuam in Medawachchiya, Mahadiulweva Indrarama Viharaya in Trincomalee and Sri Rathanajothi Vidyartha Privena in Gomarankadawala. The RO systems installed at above locations are capable of providing safe drinking water for the monks and residents of the respective places and regions as follows;
RO plant at Thammannakulam | 350 families in the region |
RO plant at Mahadiulweva Indrarama | 320 families in the region |
RO plant at Rathanajothi Vidyartha Privena | 70 Buddhist monks and 350 apprentices |
Sri Lanka Navy Research and Development Unit has been playing an instrumental role in devising these systems making use of their technological know-how and expertise. Presidential Taskforce for Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and Sri Lanka Navy sponsored for this worthy cause. Meanwhile, the installation at Thammannakulam was set up making use of the financial allocations of the Firefly Mission and it is the 6th such installation funded by them. The system at Rathanajothi Vidyartha Privena is a solar powered RO plant.
Navy had installed 207 RO systems in different parts of the country facilitating over 102,085 families and 75,420 school children with safe drinking water to date. Besides, the Navy is determined to continue this magnanimous effort into the future in a bid to quench the thirst of public deprived of safe drinking water.
