Navy humanitarian assistance continues in flood affected areas
 

Due to the prevailing inclement weather condition in the country, the Sri Lanka Navy stepped-up flood relief operations in affected areas further. Accordingly the Navy is deploying many relief activities for the displace communities including, salvaging from the disasters, transferring them to safe locations, providing them food rations and conducting medical camps.

The Navy is stepping up the relief operations further even though the adverse weather condition left from the country so far. Accordingly, the Navy’s Research and Development Unit has installed 3 mobile Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants to assist the affected areas of Rathnapura, Baduraliya and Baddegama. This one RO plant is capable enough of ferrying 5000 litres per day and it facilitates communities to have safe and pure drinking water.

Apart from that, the Navy has also rendered assistance to clean 276 wells in Matara, Galle, Rathnapura and Kaluthara districs trapped with debris hampering the water flow as follows;

The medical teams arrived from India and Pakistan to engage in relief missions for affected community in flood-ridden areas of the country and the medical team of the Sri Lanka Navy conducted medical camps in Matara, Udugama, Galapatha, Bulathsinhala, Nagoda, and Elpitiya areas and over 1,765 displaced residents in the region were benefited by this effort.

The flood relief teams of the Navy have rescued a total of 9571 persons and they have been transferred to safe locations. In addition 194,800 food rations were also distributed among the affected people.

Further, naval flood relief teams will continue to carry out rescue and relief operations in a bid to save the lives of the displaced communities.
