Indian Naval Ship (INS) ‘Kirch’ arrived at the Port of Colombo today (27) assists the ongoing disaster relief efforts for the communities affected by the extreme weather in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Navy welcomed the ship in compliance with naval customs upon her arrival.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Ravi Karunanayake, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, officers from the Naval Headquarters, Defence Attaché to the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Captain Ashok Rao and a host of government officials were present on the occasion.

Strengthening the long term ties of camaraderie and mutual relationship between the neighbour countries, the consignment of relief materials have been promptly shipped to Sri Lanka on the directives of the Indian Prime Minister, Hon. Narendra Modi. Accordingly, INS ‘Kirch’ which was patrolling in the Indian territorial waters, had took new course towards Sri Lanka with essential commodities such as; dry ration, bottles of drinking water, makeshift shelters and medicine. Further, a relief team was also dispatched onboard to swiftly engage in rescue missions going on in flood affected areas.
