First ever capping ceremony of naval nurses
The first ever capping ceremony of naval nurses who successfully completed their nursing diploma, was presided over by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe today (24) at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditoriun, Naval Headquarters.
This nursing diploma had been registered under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) on 13th November 2015. Undergoing training for the first time in this course of study, 28 male and 07 female nurses received their certificates for the successful completion of the nursing diploma.
In accordance with the stipulations and syllabuses of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, the nurses’ training sessions were carried out at the Naval Hospital, Welisara.
Six naval nurses who excelled in 9 main subjects, were awarded with special prizes and medals by Director General Training, Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena.

Director General of Health Services of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jayasundara Bandara, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic of KDU, Professor MHJ Ariyaratne, Director General Health Services of the Navy, Surgeon Rear Admiral Lalith Ekanayake, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, KDU Lieutenant Colonel Aindralal Balasuriya were among the distinguished invitees who attended this event. A host of naval personnel were also present on the occasion.
