Navy makes fullest contribution for successful conduct of United Nations Day of Vesak 2017
In parallel with the United Nations Day of Vesak 2017, the Sri Lanka Navy is engaging in a number of religious activities as of now. This significant occasion marks the 14th celebration of United Nations Day of Vesak and the very first of its kind celebrated in Sri Lanka.
Giving a meaningful beginning to the proceedings, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ‘Sarvagna Dathu’ Relics in procession onboard SLNS Sayura from Sandagiri Maha Seya in Tissamaharama to the Naval Headquarters on 4th May.
Besides, the ‘Sirasa Vesak Zone’ organized by Sirasa Media Network in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy was declared open by His Excellency the President yesterday (10) at the premises of MBC Networks (Pvt) Ltd, Braybrooke Place Colombo 2. The occasion was also attended by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and senior officers. Meanwhile, the Navy had organized a Dansal of chickpeas for the hundreds of thousands of devotees visited the Vesak Zone to pay homage to the ‘Sarvagna Dathu’ Relics. The Navy will also take a lead role in organizing the cultural procession scheduled to be held on the final day of the event proceedings
Besides, the Navy is geared up in all aspects to illuminate the streets with Vesak lanterns and lamps, provide Bhakthi Gee choir and cultural troupe for the Vesak Zone held on Bauddhaloka Mawatha from 10th to 13th May. Moreover, the Bhakthi Gee choir is ready to enchant the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone held at the premises of Seema Malaka in Hunupitiya Gangaramaya from 11th to 14th May. While paying their utmost devotion towards this series of meritorious deeds, the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone will be colourfully brightened due to the contribution of the Sri Lanka Navy.
Apart from that, the Navy has taken a lead role in assisting a number of Vesak celebrations which include; UNs Day of Vesak, World Buddhist Forum, Vesak celebrations at Presidential Secretariat, Shraddha Vesak Zone, Lake House Vesak Zone, Vesak celebrations of Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, Kelaniya and Kolonthota Vesak Zone.
Over 90 countries including, India, Pakistan, China, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia extended their invaluable contribution to Sri Lanka in making the UNs Vesak Zones colourful this year.
