Navy declares open 5 Reverse Osmosis plants
 

The Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community service projects under the able leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. The installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in areas prone to Kidney Disease is one of the many such noble projects undertaken by the Sri Lanka Navy.

Accordingly, 5 more RO plants were declared open for community use at Mahabulankulama Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura, Jayanthipura Vidyalaya in Padavi Sripura, Rasnakawewa in Horowpothana, Mamaduwa in Vavuniya and Welioya Divisional Secretariat today (28).

The recent installation of RO facilities will quench the thirst of 2,365 school children and 6,796 family members of those villages hereafter. The detailed account of the beneficiaries of these projects is as follows;

* 1,670 school children and 1,725 families from the RO plant at Mahabulankulama Maha Vidyalaya

* 695 school children and 897 families from the RO plant at Jayanthipura Vidyalaya 

* 1,452 families from the RO plant at Rasnakawewa 

* 926 families from the RO plant at Mamaduwa and 

* 1,796 families from the RO plant at Welioya Divisional Secretariat 

The financial allocation for the RO facility at Mahabulankulama Maha Vidyalaya was extended by Firefly Mission (FFM) of Singapore, meanwhile rest of the projects were carried out under the patronage of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.

Consequently, the Navy has successfully installed a total of 199 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 99,087 families and 74,220 school children with safe drinking water. Further, they are determined to continue this noble effort into the future being a great sigh of relief to the poor population battered by Kidney Disease.
