Newly constructed Secretariat of Naval Association declared open
The newly constructed Secretariat of the Naval Association at SLNS Gemunu in Welisara was declared open today (20) by the Commander of Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. The building complex had been designed to be erected in four storeys and the construction work of the ground floor has been completed as of now.
The laying of foundation stone for the new building was initiated on 4th August 2016, fulfilling a long felt requirement of the Naval Association to possess a permanent office complex. The rest of the construction of this state the art building is being continued by the Naval Civil Engineers making use of the funds allocated by the Association.
Venerable Maha Sangha, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe, Director Generals, President of Ex-Servicemen Association, Brigadier (Retd) KA Gnanaweera, President of the Naval Association, Captain (Retd) DA Wijegunawardena, senior officers, members of the Naval Association and sailors were present on the occasion. To signify the occasion, mementoes were exchanged and the Commander of the Navy also planted a sapling of tree.
