Commander of the Navy visited Brazil Navy Submarine fleet and Special Boat Squadron
The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, who is in Brazil, having being invited to attend at the Latin America Aerospace and Defence (LAAD – 2017) exhibition, made official visits to Special Boat Squadron and Submarine Warfare Training School in Brazil yesterday (7).
The Commander of the Navy who is also the founder of the Special Boat Squadron of the Sri Lanka Navy paid special attention on the Brazilian Naval Personnel who are attached to Brazilian Special Boat Squadron. Besides, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne attended a short training session with the under trainees of the Special Boat Squadron Training School.
During the cordial discussions, they shared the ideas and experience on submarine warfare in the Indian Ocean and Special Forces in the Sri Lanka Navy and Brazilian Amphibious and Combat Diving Forces. The Submarine Force Commander of the Brazilian Navy, Rear admiral Oscar Moreira Da Silva Filho and senior officers from Brazilian Special Boat Squadron and Submarine Warfare Training School were present on the occasion. Mementoes were also exchanged to signify this special occasion.
Subsequently, the Commander of the Navy made an inspection visit on Timbira Submarine. The Combat Diving Commander, Commander Martyn made a comprehensive presentation on the function and operational aspects of the submarine to Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne. The two parties exchanged mementoes on the completion of the event.
The Commander of the Navy also extended an invitation to the Brazilian Special Boat Squadron personnel to participate at the next asymmetric warfare course conducted by the Sri Lanka Naval Special Boat Squadron to share knowledge and exchange expertise.
