Certificate awarding of Asymmetric Warfare Course -2017
 

On successful completion of the 5th Asymmetric Warfare Course which was held from 9th January to 6th April, the certificate awarding and insignia pinning among the course participants got off the ground at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium at SLNS Parakrama yesterday (6). The occasion was graced by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe as the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Rear Admiral Ranasinghe mentioned that the Sri Lanka Navy was more than happy to share its hard-earned asymmetric warfare experience with the military counterparts across the oceans. Further, he reminded as to how the Sri Lanka Navy emerged as a strong unit in successfully battling out the threat posed by the enemy. Moreover, the Chief of Staff asked the course participants to make use of the new knowledge ascertained through this course for a better cause.

The Special Boat Squadron (SBS), the elite force of the Sri Lanka Navy facilitated the proceedings of the course attended by 20 foreign military personnel from Bangladesh, China, India, Maldives, Netherlands, Nigeria and Pakistan. Apart from that, three officers from the Sri Lanka Navy were also involved in this arduous training.

The three-month course was comprised of a wide range of Asymmetric Warfare related affairs viz. weapon training, combat shooting, small group operations, jungle warfare, clandestine maritime operations, small boat operations, field training exercises, survival at sea etc.

The ceremony was also attended by Director Generals, Defence Attaché of Netherlands and senior officers from the tri-services.

The present Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne is the founding father of SBS inaugurated in 1993 when he was a Lieutenant Commander.
