Navy installs solar powered RO plants
Under the able leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Navy Research and Development Unit operated under close supervision of Captain (E) Priyankara Dissanayake initiated a range of Community Service Projects for the benefit of the general public in various part of the country. The installation of Reverse Osmosis plants became an integral part of many of the similar projects launched by the Navy.
Accordingly, with the financial allocation made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease, the Sri Lanka Navy continued to set up a number of RO systems throughout the country in year 2016. From the said allocation, the Navy has been able to save a whopping amount of money, Rs 30 million as a result of their efficiency and effectiveness. Utilizing those savings the Research and Development Unit of the Navy produced several solar powered Reverse Osmosis plants and two of which were recently installed at Kotaweheramankada Vidyalaya and Aluthwewa Vidyalaya in Thanamalwila.
While continuing this magnanimous community service project, the Research and Development Unit of the Navy is due to set up yet another 30 solar powered Reverse Osmosis plants in areas where high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded.
