Three more Reverse Osmosis plants declared open
 

As part of a wide range of community service projects being implemented by the Navy under the able leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, three more Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants were declared open at Thalawegama Vidyalaya in Mahiyangana and two Naval Bases; SLNS Gajaba and SLNS Buwaneka in Mannar yesterday (25). The Navy got involved in this noble cause of installation of RO systems in areas where a high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded.

The facility at Thalawegama Vidyalaya is capable of producing clean drinking water for 120 school children, 9 staff members of the school and 320 families in the area. Meanwhile, the RO systems installed at SLNS Gajaba and SLNS Buwaneka will supply safe drinking water for 633 and 608 Naval personnel attached to the respective Naval bases. The financial provisions for the installation at Thalawegama Vidyalaya were made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.

Consequently, the Navy has successfully installed a total of 170 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 79,575 families and 62,244 school children with safe drinking water. Further, the Navy is determined to continue with the project in a bid to give a sigh of relief to the people in kidney prone areas.
