SLNS ‘Sayura’ arrives at Langkawi Harbour in Malaysia
Sri Lanka Navy’s Flagship Offshore Petrol Vessel (OPV), SLNS ‘Sayura’ which left for Malaysia to take part in the International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2017, arrived at the Langkawi Harbour in Malaysia yesterday (20). The ship commanded by Commodore Prasanna Amaradasa, sailed from Colombo Port on March 14, to represent the LIMA-2017. The ship anchored at Langkawi harbour having reached her destination after sailing 1276 Nm in 136 hours. This is the second successful participation of SLNS ‘Sayura’ at the LIMA-2017, one of the largest shows of its kind within the Asia Pacific region, since its maiden attendance in March 2007.
The ship bade farewell in comply with naval traditions prior to her departure from Colombo Harbour and engaged in diverse training and practical exercises during the voyage, with the attendance of entire crew of the ship. The training programmes included, practical exercises on fire fighting and damage control. Moreover, two notable exercises were executed by recently established Sri Lanka Navy Marines and Special Boat Squadron personnel. In addition, a Volleyball tournament was also held with the participation of six volleyball teams on 16th March. The champions were awarded with special prizes by Captain Lasantha Gamage, following the tournament. Meanwhile, yet another recreational program was also arranged onboard ship to unveil the latents of the ship’s crew. The evening was entertained by the Sri Lanka Navy Oriental Band with their melodious play.
The Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe who is attending the LIMA – 2017 as a distinguished invitee, also made a visit onboard SLNS Sayura .
The LIMA-2017 which is scheduled to be held from March 21st to 25th will be attended by 40 ships across from the world.
