Navy bestows another 13 Reverse Osmosis plants on community
Accomplishing another community service project of the Sri Lanka Navy, a total of 13 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants installed at Wilgamuwa in Matale were declared open by the Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka with the participation of Commander of Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne yesterday (13).
On a concept of the Commander of Sri Lanka Navy, the Research and Development Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy manufacture and set up Reverse Osmosis plants in areas where high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded.
The installation of RO Plants was carried out on par with the World Kidney Day celebrations 2017 held in Wilgamuwa Matale on the directives of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena. The Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease made financial allocation for 10 RO Plants while ISN Gardiner Kidney Decease Prevention Fund of Galle Face Hotel, bore the cost of 3 RO Plants.
The expertise knowledge of the Research and Development Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy, helped opening of 10 RO Plants via online. In addition, an exhibition stall installed at the venue convinced the public on the importance of RO Plants and how to prevent kidney disease.
Accordingly, with the assistance of Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease Sri Lanka Navy installed RO plants at Namini Oya Central College, Maraka Maha Vidyalaya, Nugagolla Maha Vidyalaya, Mahawathenna Primary School, Radunneweva Primary School, Sonuththara Junior School, Malgammana Primary School, Bogahweva Junior School, Dharmapala Primary School and Wilgamuwa Primary School. This will benefit 3,622 school children and 6,006 villagers of the region.
ISN Gardiner Kidney Deceases Prevention Fund sponsored RO plants were installed at the Villeges of Perakanaththa, Gemburuoya, and Lediyangala benefitting over 546 villegers living in the area.
The Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit has been extremely influential in producing these RO systems utilizing their expertise and technological know-how and has successfully installed a total of 153 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 73,200 families and 56,700 school children with safe drinking water provided free of charge. Further, the Navy is determined and will continue to set up more RO plants in due course.
