Three Reverse Osmosis plants bestowed on community

Following the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a number of community service programmes focusing on the wellbeing of the civilian population. As part of one such initiative, 3 more Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants installed in ‘Ranaviru Village’ in Rambewa, Diyasenpura in Medirigiriya and Dematamalgama in Mahavilachchiya were bestowed upon the community today (8).

The Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, Mrs. Anoma Fonseka, as the Chief Guest, declared open the RO plant facility installed in ‘Ranaviru Village’ Rambewa. Venerable Maha Sangha, the Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe, senior officers, and a large number of family members from ‘Ranaviru Village’ were present on the occasion. This facility will provide safe drinking water for 436 families in the ‘Ranaviru Village’. The financial provision for this RO system was made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Disease.

Similarly, the facilities set up in Diyasenpura and Dematamalgama are capable of quenching the thirst of 360 and 180 families residing in respective villages, with safe drinking water. The Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Disease had made financial support for these two facilities as well. The Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit had used its expertise and know-how to construct all these RO systems. They have successfully installed a total of 131 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 57,106 families and 45,100 school children with safe drinking water provided free of charge. Moreover, the Navy is determined to continue this noble effort in the future
