Chief of Staff of the Navy attends ‘Mal perahara’ of Gangarama Temple
 

The Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple’s ‘Mal perahara’ which is held in parallel with the ‘Navam Maha Perahera’ was conducted for the 33rd time at the temple premises today (6). This procession is annually organized by the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple, Colombo. Displaying high standard of discipline, excellent organizing ability, remarkable dramatic configuration and cultural events the ‘Mal perahara’ is held seven days prior to the annual pageant, Navam Maha Perahara.

Following the guidance of the Chief Prelate of the Gangarama Temple, Venerable Galaboda Gnanissara Thero the procession was held with the attendance of the Navy’s Thelme dance team and ‘Hevisi’ teams. Having set out the Perahara proceedings from the temple premises and walking in procession along Sir James Pieris Mawatha all the way up to the Temple Trees, it finally reach back to the Gangarama Temple.

The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe attended this year’s procession and a host of senior and junior naval personnel also took part in this meritorious deed.
