Northern Naval Command conducts two field medical clinics in Jaffna Peninsula
As part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s Community Development and Social Responsibility Project, which is conducted under the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Northern Naval Command conducted two field medical clinics at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on 22nd January 2017 and at the Free Siddha Dispensary at the Analathive Island on 05th February 2017 respectively. These field medical clinics were held under the patronage of the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal de Silva.
A large number of patients (approx. 404) including newly resettled civil communities on the Mandathive and Analathive Islands in Jaffna District were benefited from these clinics. Moreover, the general public living on these islands appreciated the continuous service rendered by the Navy to uplift their health standards.
During the clinics held, treatments were given for acute and chronic illness, adolescent and old age health issues, child and antenatal heath issues and women health care at primary level by, Naval medical staff. Meanwhile, the patients who needed specialized care were referred to the Teaching Hospital Jaffna. Screening for chronic non communicable diseases was also done with basic laboratory investigations to ensure early identification of diseases among the community. Medicine and nutritional supplements for the clinics were provided free of charge by the Thriposha Lanka Ltd, State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC), Hemas Pharmaceutical and CLC Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
