Five (5) Reverse Osmosis plants declared open for community use
 

The Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing several community service projects under the visionary leadership of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. As part of that initiative, the Navy has been installing Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in areas which are prone to renal disease and facilitating the civilian population with safe drinking water.

Accordingly, 5 more Reverse Osmosis plants installed at Alakimbulawa Chethiyagiri Rajamaha Viharaya in Padaviya and villages of Madukanda in Vavunia, Thalawa in Polpithigama, Pallekale and Pothivil were declared open for community use today (23)

As a result, 450 families in Thalawa, 400 families in Madukanda, the monks of Chethiyagiri Rajamaha Viharaya and 350 families in the area, 600 families in Pallekale and 680 families in Pothuvil now have the access to safe drinking water provided free of charge by the Navy making use of the recent installation of Reverse Osmosis plants at respective locations. The financial support needed for the RO facility at Chethiyagiri Rajamaha Viharaya was provided by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana meanwhile the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Diseases extended financial assistance for the other 4 facilities.

The Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit launched this magnanimous community service initiative utilizing their technological know-how and expertise and had been successful in producing low-budget RO plants in short period of time. Incidentally, the Navy installed a total of 112 RO facilities across the country thus far facilitating over 50,455 families and 40,600 school children with safe drinking water. The undying attitude of the Navy towards the installation of more RO facilities in different parts of the country will predominantly contribute to eradicate the renal disease from the country.
