Two more Reverse Osmosis plants bestowed upon public by Commander of the Navy
 

Out of many community service projects conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy, installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in the areas which are prone to theChronic Interstitial Nephritis in Agricultural Communities (CINAC) has been recognized as a noble cause successfully executed throughout the last year.

Going another step ahead with that initiative, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne declared open two more RO facilities installed at Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya and St. Thomayar Church located on Eluvaitivu Island, for community use today (22). The facilities were declared open during the command visit made by Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne. As a result, the devotees who arrive at Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya to worship from different parts of the country and complete population (120 families) on Eluvaitivu Island will be benefited from these latest installations.

There have been long standing religious and social ties between the Sri Lanka Navy and Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya. In view of strengthening that partnership further, this RO plant was installed at the temple premises as per the directives of the Commander of the Navy utilizing the funds provided through the Sri Lanka Navy’s Social Responsibility Fund. Meanwhile, the RO plant on Eluvaitivu Island was set up making use of the Government’s financial provisions which were saved from the reconstruction of the Eluvaitivu Jetty. Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva played a pivotal part in this regard making way for the community on the island to obtain safe drinking water. The Commander of the Navy extended his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva for his excellent contribution made in making this effort a reality, incurring considerably a low cost. He also praised the untiring effort of all officers and sailors who showed much interest in installing these facilities and Captain Priyankara Dissanayake of the Navy’s Research and Development Unit and his staff for producing low-budget but high quality Reverse Osmosis plants for poor people.

Invoking blessings on the Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel, the Chief Prelate of Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya and Chief Sanghanayaka of Northern Province, Praveenacharya Dharma Keerthi Sri Ven. Navadagala Padumakiththi Tissa Thera conducted Buddhist rituals and praised this noble effort of the Navy by providing an RO plant which was a long felt requirement of the temple. Besides, the Chief Priest, Father Judas and other priests of St. Thomayar Church, Eluvaitivu also conducted a mass and invoked blessings on the Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel.

Venerable Maha Sangha including the Chief Prelate of Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya and Chief Sanghanayaka of Northern Province, Praveenacharya Dharma Keerthi Sri Ven. Navadagala Padumakiththi Tissa Thera, priests from St. Thomayar Church in Eluvaitivu. Divissional Secretary of Velani, Mrs. Sewendaram, Commander Northern Naval Area, senior officers, sailors, devotees and a large number of civilian were also present on the occasion. Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne took time off to share a light moment with them as well.

Along with these two facilities, the Navy installed a total of 107 RO plants across the country thus far facilitating 47,975 families and 40,600 school children with safe drinking water. The undying attitude of the Navy towards the installation of more RO facilities in different parts of the country will predominantly contribute to eradicate the renal disease from the country.
