The second Tabletop Exercise on Disaster Management held in Northern Naval Command
The second Tabletop Exercise of the Northern Naval Command, organized under the theme of ‘Disaster Management’ was held at the Command Wardroom at SLNS Uththara, Kankesanturai on 05th January 2017 under the patronage of the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva.
The full-day event was organized by the Commanding Officer of the Naval Deployment Vettilaikeni, Command Land Operation Officer and Regional Director Northern Range of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard under the supervision of the Commander Northern Naval Area. The objective of the exercise was to enhance the knowledge of the Officers on the subject matter and professionally qualify them to effectively act during such calamity. A large number of Officers including the Commanding Officers representing the Establishments and Afloat units attended the execution of this scenario based exercise.
The exercise commenced with a elaborate presentation conducted by the Commander Northern Naval Area, comprised of own experiences in related scenarios during his long Naval career. This was a good eye opener for the young officers to groom themselves in a professional manner to effectively face such calamities in future. In addition, the facts he elaborated amply paved the way to continue with the exercise in a professional manner.
