Three more Reverse Osmosis plants declared open

The Community Service Project of the Sri Lanka Navy will continue its noble tasks into the future, having being completed its first year of operations as at 22nd December 2016. Going by the visionary concept of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Navy’s Research and Development Unit undertook the magnanimous project of providing safe drinking water to the civilian population by installing Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems across the country. Accordingly, 3 mere RO pants were declared open for the community use at villages of Tikkampothana in Kahatagasdigiliya, Diviyaudabandawewa in Rambewa and Diyawara in Thanamalwila yesterday (23).

The Navy’s Research and Development Unit utilized their expertise to produce and install these three facilities along with the financial provision made by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Diseases. Accordingly, over 1,350 families in those villages are facilitated with safe drinking water provided free of charge as a result of these installations.

The Research and Development Unit of the Navy remains extremely influential in terms of undertaking these kind of projects to provide innocent people with safe drinking water, in the areas where a high prevalence of the renal disease is recorded. They have successfully installed 74 RO units in different parts of the county to date, for the benefit of 34,500 families and 26,000 school children. Further, the Navy is determined to continue this noble task being an example to other departments and institutions of the country as well. Besides, the Navy believes that this magnanimous effort will immensely pave the way to eradicate the renal disease from Sri Lanka.
