Five fishermen arrested for engaging in illegal fishing using explosives

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba located in Mannar belonging to the North Central Naval Command arrested 5 fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using explosives in the sea area off Pallemunai, Mannar yesterday (17).

During the arrest; a dingy , an unauthorized fishing net, 5 pairs of diving fins, 5 diving masks and 250 kg of fish were also taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons, items and stock of fish were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Mannar for onward legal action.
