Two Reverse Osmosis plants declared open in Balapitiya and Mullaitivu
 

Acting upon the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Sri Lanka Navy has been implementing a wide range of community service programmes focusing on the wellbeing of the civilian population. As part of another project of the above initiative, two more Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants were declared open in the village Kosgoda , Balapitiya and at Mullaitivu Police Station on 13^th December 2016.

The two facilities are capable of providing safe drinking water for 150 families in Kosgoda area and 650 Police personnel attached to the Mullaitivu Police Station respectively. The financial provision for the two RO systems was made by the Brandix Plus Ltd through the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Diseases and Sirasa Media Network. The construction of the two systems was undertaken by Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit. Realizing the grave need for having more Reverse Osmosis plants in areas which are prone to Chronic Interstitial Nephritis, Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit is very much instrumental in developing more RO systems for the use of the intended people who are deprived of safe drinking water. Accordingly they had installed 65 Reverse Osmosis facilities across the country to date. Further, the Navy has been conducting a timely progrmme to make the general public aware of Chronic Interstitial Nephritis in Agricultural Communities (CINAC) to coincide with the installation of RO plants.
