Navy continues to render assistance to carry out routine operations at the Port of Hambantota
The Sri Lanka Navy managed to get the turbulent situation that evolved at the Port of Hambantota on 10th of December under control by establishing security and restoring operational activities. Due to this tense situation the routine operations of the harbour was severely hampered. However the Sri Lanka Navy has been extending its fullest cooperation for the successful conduct of the routine operations of the Port of Hambantota since the evolvement of the situation.
Accordingly, over 200 naval personnel have been deployed at the Hambatota Harbour and they rendered assistance to unload cargo expeditiously from the Container Ship ‘MV Hoyanger’ today (15). As a result of the sabotage carried out by port employees, the shipping agent of ‘MV Hoyanger’ had to incur a significant amount of demurrage for the last few days of non-operation. Having unloaded cargo onboard, the vessel is expected to leave for her next port of call in Campana, Argentina.
