HE the President declares open the Sri Jinarathana Vocational and Tertiary Training Centre in Seenigama
His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena ceremonially declared open the Sri Jinarathana Vocational and Tertiary Training Centre in Seenigama today (14). Following a noble concept of the Chief Incumbent of the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple in Colombo, Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera and with the financial contributions made by the donors in foreign countries, the facilities of Sri Jinarathana Vocational and Tertiary Training Centre were reconstructed utilizing the skilled labour of the Sri Lanka Navy under the leadership of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne.
The Training Centre which was opened with the intention of providing vocational training to the school leaving students of tri-service personnel is equipped with all facilities including a computer laboratory, a technical training workshop, a library and hostel facilities required for residential training. Besides, this Training Centre functions attached to the Sri Jinarathana Vocational Training Institute, Hunupitiya and is expected to register under the Ministry of Vocational Training as an institute that provides National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). Further, the following courses can be followed at the Sri Jinarathana Vocational and Tertiary Training Centre in Seenigama. The Sri Lanka Navy’s retired sailors who are experts in various technical spheres are ready to impart their expertise to the students who follow various technical courses here.
Computer technology, Refrigerator and air conditioner repairs, Mobile phone repairs, Electrical engineering, Welding and iron work, Fiber engineering technology, Motor mechanic and Engine repairs of motor boats.
Venerable Maha Sangha, Japanese delegation of priests, Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Members of the Parliament, Chief Minister of Southern Province, Hon. Shan Wijayalal De Silva, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nimal Sarathsena, senior officers, distinguished guests and a large number of local and overseas donors were present on the occasion.
