Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy visits Eastern Naval Command
 

The Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral Sunil Lanba who arrived in Sri Lanka to take part in the Galle Dialogue 2016 International Maritime Conference, paid a visit to the Eastern Naval Command yesterday (30).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Travis Sinniah received the Indian Chief of Naval Staff upon his arrival at the Eastern Naval Command. Subsequently, the Commander Eastern Naval Area made a brief overview of the operational function of the Command to the visiting military delegation. Admiral Sunil Lanba also spared time to review ongoing training at the Naval and Maritime Academy and extended his appreciation to Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy for the highest standard of training carried out at the premier training establishment of the Navy.

The Indian Navy has been extremely generous towards the Sri Lanka Navy by allowing foreign training opportunities for SLN officers and sailors in India. Accordingly there are 123 officers and 148 sailors follow a number of training courses attached to various training schools across India. Therefore Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne expressed his sincere gratitude for the Indian Chief of Naval Staff for that generosity.

During this tour , Admiral Sunil Lanba along with Indian delegation visited Trincomalee Harbour, Naval Museum and paid homage to the Koneswaram Temple as well. The Defence Advisor of the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Captain Prakash Gopalan and a host of senior officers from the Indian and Sri Lanka Navy were present for this occasion. In honour of the visit of the Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, at the invitation of Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne, a grand Mess Dinner was also held at the Eastern Command Wardroom. Mementoes were also exchanged to mark this event.
