Three Reverse Osmosis plants declared open for community use

As part of yet another initiative of community service programmes carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy across the country, three more RO plants were declared open for community use in Abhayapura and Senarathpura villages in Medirigiriya and Pandikarammaduwa in Kekirawa yesterday (25). This initiative was coordinated by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease established under the visionary leadership of His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena.

The financial assistance for the two RO systems established in Abhayapura and Senarathpura villages was provided by Galle Face Hotel Colombo and the RO plant in Pandikarammaduwa was built with the financial provision made by ‘Sirasa Gammedda’ programme.

Accordingly, the two facilities which are capable of providing safe drinking water for over 400 and 500 families in Abhayapura and Senarathpura villages respectively, were declared open by the Project Director of Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and Mrs. Iddawela and the Chairman of Galle Face Hotel Mr. Sanjeev Gardiner.

Meanwhile the crew of ‘Sirasa Gammedda’ programme, Chief Marketing Officer of National Lotteries Board, Mr. Yasantha Karunarathna and a host of dignitaries attended the opening ceremony of the RO system installed in Pandikarammaduwa, Kekirawa.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne has become a driving force behind the initiative of preventing the chronic kidney disease which is widespread in 11 districts of Sri Lanka, utilizing the technological knowhow of Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit. Incidentally the Navy’s Research and Development Unit had installed 55 RO systems across the country, facilitating the safe drinking water requirement of the general public. All these RO plants are operational around the clock in view of providing safe drinking water for people in areas which are prone to Chronic Interstitial Nephritis.
